Historical Fiction Mega Book Haul!

Hiya bookworms! Today I wanted to share my historical fiction book haul that I’ve accumulated over the months! There’s quite a lot of books so let’s get into it!

  • The Women by Kristin Hannah. Need I say more, I mean it’s THE Kristin Hannah! This is her latest book and my most anticipated read for this year (probably, I have a lot but I’d say this is in top 5). It’s set during the Vietnam War and the main character’s brother is drafted so she joins the war as an Army nurse I believe and it goes from there. I just know I’m going to be sobbing. This was such a violent and turbulent time in American history and I love stories about siblings, so this is going to be a very emotional read.
  • So, I got a ton of books by Kate Quinn, a very popular historical fiction author. She has a series set in Ancient Rome following various women, starting with Mistress of Rome, then Daughters of Rome, Empress of the Seven Hills, and ends with Lady of the Eternal City. I love reading about Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt during the summer (in my mind the Ancient world was hot so the setting fits summer reading lol), so I’ll be binging these soon. Her other series I got is about the mistress of the Borgia Pope set in Renaissance Italy. Julia Farnase! That’s her name, it just came to me (I remembered thanks to the Borgias t.v. show playing in my memory lol). Both books follow her life and the political intrigue surrounding her and the Borgias. I love reading about that family and all the drama and scheming!
  • Then we have The Venetian Mask and The Golden Tulip, both set during the Renaissance, the first in Venice and the other in the Netherlands. Both are by Rosalind Laker, who wrote one of my all time favorite books EVER! To Dance With Kings. Read it, you’ll love it. Anyway, I’ve always wanted to read other books by her so I picked these two up. I barely know anything about them, but I think I’ll love them too since she’s such a beautiful writer.
  • American Beauty by Shana Abe. This is a novel set in the Gilded Age about one of NYC’s highest society ladies who came from poverty in Richmond, Virginia and became one of the wealthiest women ever. I know nothing about this lady (can’t even remember her name) but this book is sure to be good if it’s got a story like that to tell!
  • Hand of Isis by Jo Graham. This is one of my all time favorite books! This tells the story of Cleopatra and her two half-sisters and handmaidens. This is a beautiful saga full of life, tragedy, beauty, mythology, I can’t say enough good things about it. Black Ships is another older book by Jo Graham which I’m very excited to read; it deals with Greek mythology. I will write a full review of Hand of Isis after I reread it because this book needs to be more popular!

That concludes my historical fiction haul! Who else is a history nerd? I just love being transported to the past, it’s so fun to read (actually it’s sometimes terrifying, but ya know what I mean). Tell me your favorite time period to read about, I’d love to know! Until next time, Happy Reading bookworms!
