My Favorite House in GoT & Living by Their Motto

In case y’all didn’t know, I am a huge nerd and Game of Thrones (and House of the Dragon) is one of my favorite shows ever. Did I hate the last season? Of course! BUT, still a great show. My all time favorite House in the show has to be the Targaryens of course, but I also love House Tyrell. Too bad they got wiped out in Game of Thrones, that broke my heart lol. However, besides a beautiful emblem, the Tyrells have a great motto: “Growing Strong”. That’s what I try to live by. I’m constantly growing as a person, changing, evolving. And I try to be as strong and brave as I can facing life and life’s obstacles. “Growing Strong” inspires me to just go for it and do the best that I can. I did this piece of art thinking that in the back of my mind. I went with an earthy, hippie, 60’s-70’s era color scheme and I like how it turned out. I’m thinking of incorporating more writing into my art, that seems like it would be fun. We shall see what I come up with. I’m also thinking of starting a daily art journal. Just to have fun with each day, doodle a little something and jot some thoughts down. I would share it on here! Anyone else have an art journal? I’d love to know and get some advice. Hope y’all are having a groovy day!

Abundance -Aesthetic Prose Poetry-

Photo by Kristina Paukshtite on Pexels.com

Skipping through a field of wildflowers, petals brushing against your thighs, swaying in the breeze with a freshly sweet scent enveloping you, trailing your hands through the greenery, a ladybug landing on your collar, joining you on your frolic, the sun is arcing across the sky, casting gold over the land in contrast to the periwinkle blue, so clear and beautiful that it hurts your heart, knowing that you’re leaving this Abundance for Another, a trip across the country to a crammed city of steel and glass towers, the opposite of what you have here and now, so you savor the sights and sounds, smells and swaying, you’ll never have this moment of beauty again, just like this, so you commit everything to memory, tuck it away on a secret shelf in your mind, to pull out on the rainy, cloudy, dreary days smelling of wet concrete and molding gutters, someday after you make your Abundance, you’ll settle back here and rejoice for eternity, but for now, you must go and bid a temporary farewell, but you’ll be back, you’ll always come back.

IDK Where I’m Goin’, But I’m On My Way!

One of my latest random doodles created in the midst of mania and honestly it was a revelation to me! I encourage everyone to keep chugging along in life no matter what, because you never know what will come your way as a surprise! I am terrible at making plans, especially for my life and day to day living. I usually fly by the seat of my pants and see where it takes me. So yes, I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m on my way!!!! That’s the key to living in the moment I think. Like they say, Man makes plans and God laughs.

Life has been treating me well. I have been creating abundantly, reading a lot of great books, and enjoying the Spring & soon to be Summer weather. I will be blogging about recent reads and music faves as well as some new poetry and art. Hope you’re all doing well and having a groovy day!

Noir Aries

Lily pads in stagnant water where they collect the day’s rain, gazing up in a foggy forest with jagged edges tinged green in a gray sky, vines climbing up marble columns and ensnaring statues, spiked crystals glistening in cool moon rays of light, the Duke and Duchess seated together on gilt edged chairs and clenched hands, “Little by little” she whispers to herself under the neon lights, flowers bloom from the open wounds on her wrists, tall and heavy doors crashing shut with an ominous thud, jasmine blooming at midnight, “Some of us are just better at faking it” she says and gently wipes the man’s bloody face, a fox sleeping gently under the cover of a fan of ferns, your key no longer unlocking their door, broken glass panes in the windows of your childhood home, trailing her fingers through river water, “I’m a sinner” she cries, “Aren’t we all?” he smirks.

Void of the Unknown -Grief Poetry-

Not getting any answers/Unsettles my very Spirit/What is happening?/Echoes through my mind/Conjuring up horrific images/Drenching my eyes with blood/Crimson tears staining my cheeks/A clownish blush in contrast to my ghastly face/Not knowing if she is still with Us/Or journeyed into the next realm Beyond/Not knowing if she is here nor there/Begging for a sign or message/But being denied completely/Not knowing whether to pray to god or curse him/Make deals and promises with god for a miracle/Anything/For now I wallow in the Void/anger darkening my soul/grasping that the answers may never come/Closure is not a right, but a privilege, a gift/But I cannot stop my raging against the Unkown, not yet/So I continue on into the Abyss alone/Desperate to bring some semblance of her back with me into the Light of Day.

Luminous Jade Aries -Aesthetic Poem-

Aloe vera leaves cut open and oozing cool slimy gel, eyes cut from stone that see all and store for later uses, greenhouses with dirty windows filled with foliage and smelling of earth’s bounty, rippling currents through murky pool water, squared off nails drawing blood from gripping the sides of your neck, thick brushstrokes layered haphazardly on the canvas, bamboo shoots rising above your head and swaying in the breeze, seeing you with her and still wanting to kiss you in rage, a faerie’s drink of pond water dotted with daisies, tunnels of greenery leading toward you always you, sleeping beneath the pine trees whispering “everything is going to be okay”, silky sheets rumpled and cooling in the midnight air, children climbing in the tree tops above.

Ice & Fire

-A Tribute to Daenerys Targaryen & Jon Snow-

So, I’m having Game of Thrones nostalgia and House of the Dragon withdrawals, so I figured now would be a good time to post this painting that I did quite a long time ago. I did this painting all in acrylic paint and used metallic marker for some finishing touches. Done on mixed media paper in my 11×14 sketchbook.

I wanted to show Dany and Jon side by side based on a promo photoshoot they did one season. I represented Dany’s fire with warm colors and Jon’s ice in cool tones. I love how it turned out and feel it represents their dichotomy well. I absolutely despised the ending of GoT and what Jon did to Dany, so I made this to remember them in happier times. An alternate ending in my mind if you will lol.

That’s my little art show and tell of the day! What have you been creating? I’d love to know! Until next time, Alette.

Historical Fiction Mega Book Haul!

Hiya bookworms! Today I wanted to share my historical fiction book haul that I’ve accumulated over the months! There’s quite a lot of books so let’s get into it!

  • The Women by Kristin Hannah. Need I say more, I mean it’s THE Kristin Hannah! This is her latest book and my most anticipated read for this year (probably, I have a lot but I’d say this is in top 5). It’s set during the Vietnam War and the main character’s brother is drafted so she joins the war as an Army nurse I believe and it goes from there. I just know I’m going to be sobbing. This was such a violent and turbulent time in American history and I love stories about siblings, so this is going to be a very emotional read.
  • So, I got a ton of books by Kate Quinn, a very popular historical fiction author. She has a series set in Ancient Rome following various women, starting with Mistress of Rome, then Daughters of Rome, Empress of the Seven Hills, and ends with Lady of the Eternal City. I love reading about Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt during the summer (in my mind the Ancient world was hot so the setting fits summer reading lol), so I’ll be binging these soon. Her other series I got is about the mistress of the Borgia Pope set in Renaissance Italy. Julia Farnase! That’s her name, it just came to me (I remembered thanks to the Borgias t.v. show playing in my memory lol). Both books follow her life and the political intrigue surrounding her and the Borgias. I love reading about that family and all the drama and scheming!
  • Then we have The Venetian Mask and The Golden Tulip, both set during the Renaissance, the first in Venice and the other in the Netherlands. Both are by Rosalind Laker, who wrote one of my all time favorite books EVER! To Dance With Kings. Read it, you’ll love it. Anyway, I’ve always wanted to read other books by her so I picked these two up. I barely know anything about them, but I think I’ll love them too since she’s such a beautiful writer.
  • American Beauty by Shana Abe. This is a novel set in the Gilded Age about one of NYC’s highest society ladies who came from poverty in Richmond, Virginia and became one of the wealthiest women ever. I know nothing about this lady (can’t even remember her name) but this book is sure to be good if it’s got a story like that to tell!
  • Hand of Isis by Jo Graham. This is one of my all time favorite books! This tells the story of Cleopatra and her two half-sisters and handmaidens. This is a beautiful saga full of life, tragedy, beauty, mythology, I can’t say enough good things about it. Black Ships is another older book by Jo Graham which I’m very excited to read; it deals with Greek mythology. I will write a full review of Hand of Isis after I reread it because this book needs to be more popular!

That concludes my historical fiction haul! Who else is a history nerd? I just love being transported to the past, it’s so fun to read (actually it’s sometimes terrifying, but ya know what I mean). Tell me your favorite time period to read about, I’d love to know! Until next time, Happy Reading bookworms!

Weird Days Require Weird Art & “Suffering” Poem

Sometimes, as a creative, when you’re having very weird days and nights, the only solution is to create weird art. So that’s what I did! I started out doodling a martini and turned it into this weird face lol. Abstraction of the ordinary helps to soothe the mind when life is being odd. I’ve been having strange dreams and tossing and turning, waking up every hour. My mental health has sort of been involved in the suffering as well. (stay tuned for a poem at the end about that). But creating weird art helps me, quite a lot. Writing weird, abstract poetry is on my to do list as well, I have so many ideas rattling around in my brain; I just need to put them down onto paper. The lesson I’m trying to tell? Embrace the weirdness, let it seep into your creativity. You never know what might just happen! Here’s a poem from a particularly bad mental health night:

Suffering

Dreams ’round every corner/visions at will/teardrops threaten to spill/Running down the hallway/Screaming every name/etched into my brain/Help me please dear god/This life is pure Terror.

Luckily today and yesterday, things are looking up and I’m feeling much better. Sometimes you just have to ride the wave of emotions! If you’re interested in more of my art, my art instagram is at artbyalette and my art shop is at artbyalette.redbubble.com

Hope you’re all doing well and I’m looking forward to blogging much more regularly, yippee! Have a groovy day everyone!

I Created Me -Divines Aesthetic Poem-

Photo by David Kopacz on Pexels.com

I burst forth from the starry skies, light and energy radiating from my very being, pulsating waves crashing through the clouds, stirring swirls of gray, white, and blue, a tornado of fury wrapping around me, stardust running through my veins, the sky’s ever changing colors captured in my eyes, my heart comes alive with a great boom, sending shockwaves throughout all the universe.
